The Piper Pawnee just leaving an airfield with a glider on tow. When the glider reaches the desired height, its pilot releases that end of the rope. The launch will be typically to 700 metres (2000 feet) over flat land, but flying in the mountains may need a higher tow. Photograph reproduced with the kind permission of whiteplanes.com
