Asterophora lycoperdoides |
Asterophora is the name of a genus of mushrooms that grow as parasites on other mushrooms[1] [2]. Asterophora species are characterized by the massive production of chlamydospores[3] in their fruiting bodies and by the production of carminophilous lysosomes in their basidia. A frequently used but synonymous generic name is Nyctalis. The chlamydospores have been classified in the genus Ugola, which is an anamorphic name.
