User talk:Askewcodex

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Hi, Askewcodex. I'm curious as to your motive in editing Seer stone. The phrase "but the true Urim and Thummim..." is not appropriate to the article or section for several reasons, to include its lack of neutrality. It is not the place of any one editor to state what is "true," as in one faith tradition has a "true" form, and the other a "false." Rather, we are but to present all forms in an objective manner. I suppose that you are new, so please don't be offended--I would much rather that you stay and contribute. Please be careful, however, to avoid what wikipedians consider to be vandalism. If you would like to compare the differences between Mormon and Hebrew Urim and Thummims, stating that the one is used for revelation and the other to cast lots, I'm sure that there is a place to do this--but you mustn't say that the Hebrew is "right" or "just" or "true" and the Mormon "evil" or "false." These value judgments are not ours to make. Best,--Rojerts 18:24, 1 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] User Talk

Hey sorry about that, I changed it some but you might want to edit it out completely. Maybe I should check the subject under Hebrew Urim and Thummim. Originally I thought i wanted to seperate fiction from history but I realize i was plain wrong, Check out the new stuff i put in and edit it out if you think it has no basis in the seer stone subject. Thanks again>>>askewcodex

I find it really interesting, but I'm not sure that it has a place in the seer stone article. Also, it's really hard to read with the in-text citations (references at the bottom would be better).
The article links Seer stone to Urim and Thummim by stating in the intro that "Some argue that the Hebrew Urim and Thummim were seer stones." Perhaps this could be expanded into its own section, and then the differences between the Mormon and Hebrew Urim and Thummims could be compared. If you want to take a stab at it, I'll check back later to offer any comments [if needed]. Thanks, --Rojerts 05:32, 2 January 2007 (UTC)

Hey Rojerts, I took it out but added a link below as Seer Stones and Urim and Thummim. It needs work though. I need to look over the style guide a bit. Thanks>>>askewcodex.

I'm not sure if it can stand as it's own article. Look over the style guide, and then rework the article. Once completed, you might consider placing it as a new, separate section within either Seer stones or Urim and thummim, or adding it to one of the existing sections. Good luck!--Rojerts 16:33, 2 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Moving pages

I noticed that you created two pages:

  • Seer stones and Urim Thummim
  • Seer Stones and Urim Thummim

It appears that you intended to move the pages. If this is the case it is better to use the move tab at the top of the page rather than creating two articles which could lead to a content fork. I have assumed this and moved the most recently edited version to Seer stones and Urim Thummim as seer stones is also lower case and unless they are proper nouns or the word(s) have (unusually) uppercase in them, titles should always be in lowercase except the first letter. If it should be Seer Stones and Urim Thummim please feel free to switch the pages. Also the only difference between the pages was "may". What were on the pages can be viewed by pressing the history tab. Ksbrowntalk 19:03, 2 January 2007 (UTC)
