Arvind Singh

Lieutenant Arvind Singh was awarded the Maha Vir Chakra in 1987.

Arvind attended La Martiniere College in Lucknow, India. In 1987 he was an officer in the Indian Marines' special forces. Arvind and ten para commandos were tasked with destroying a jetty and speedboats beloging to militants in Sri Lanka.[1]

They successfully completed the task on 21st October by swimming more than a mile underwater[2]. However during the mission the unit came under observation and in order to avoid detection Lieutenant Singh came out of cover to divert attention so that the eleven speedboats could be destroyed.

Lieutenant Singh was decorated with the Maha Vir Chakra for his courage and skill in leading this and two similar raids.[2]
