This article is about the name. for the computer scientist, see Arvind (computer scientist).
Arvind is a common male name in India and Pakistan which means lotus in Sanskrit. In Southern India, Arvind is often written (and pronounced) as Aravind or Arvindh, and in Bengal, it becomes Aurobindo. The great seer Sri Aurobindo would in effect be called "Shree Arvind" in north and west India. It also means sun in Hindi. According to myth, only the cleverest and most bright child gets the name 'Arvind'. The blessing hand of Rama is described as "Arvind Dhalaya Daksham" in Shlokas about Lord Rama. As it refers to an inanimate flower, many religions including christianity use this for naming their babies.
