Wikipedia talk:Articles for deletion/Titan (band)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This was a band that I would regularly go and see when I was a kid. The drummer Jan was the only member who carried on in the music business in bands like Compulsion [1]and China Drum (later re-names The Drum) [2]. Jean Paul Orr formed his own voice over studio called the Showreel [3] and the other members drifted into other areas like IT and Video Editing They were winners of the TSB Rock School Competition in 1980 and recorded a long deleted album for Wave Records at Wave Studios in Hoxton

[edit] Titan should stay

The Titan entry should stay because it was all real. some of the doubts are apparently raised by the fact the band had some fun, and were a bit silly. well, sounds about right for a bunch of 15 year olds. One of their legendary Reeds School gigs in aid of Cancer Research was called "cough up for cancer". These benefit gigs pre-date Live Aid by some years, and it is rumoured that Bob Geldhof saw a poster for the gig, and was left with a germ of an idea that eventually lead to his world wide charity campaign and knighthood. Titan sent a demo tape (that's old skool technology kids) to Bronze records (home of the gods of heavy metal Motorhead). Bronze stated that "this band show a remarkable amount of talent and ability, but are considered too young to be signed at this point". It is true that lyricist and drummer Jan Alkema was the sole band member who went on to have a career in music. His latest project is the bin-man punck rock trio Driven To Collision.

The other band members still despise him for his ability to rock more than the rest of them put together, and envy him for all the riches it brought him. Titan were real.
