Wikipedia talk:Articles for deletion/Russ Martin

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

In the beginning, there was darkness...and the darkness led to dark days on the daily journies hither and thither to and from the employment of man. Man looked at this darkness, and he frowned, and all was not right with the world. Then came the phenom that is the Russ Martin show, and there was laughter, and there was joy, and there were explosions (sometimes in dumpsters), and the darkness became light. People smiled, and they laughed, and that dark dreary thing called a commmute was made that much brighter, and the people from Dallas and Fort Worth Texas united, and they paid homage to Russ Martin. They showed that they cared about a radio show from Texas, and about a host, who cares (even when he says he doesn't, we all know better) about people and about animals, and about doing what's right by law enforcement, and firemen, and the people who stand guard for this country. His charity is a wonderful organization, and his show is a magical occurance. You would do a great injustice by deleting the acknowlegement of it. I beseech you to think otherwise. Keep the page. The Russ Martin Show is the number one radio show in every possible demographic and all information can be verified on his website. If you need to verify this with CBS Radio Corporate I am sure they can verify the Aribitron ratings as well.

Russ Martin is a contributor to this community. He sits on the board of Operation Kindness, a no kill animal shelter that protects animals and works with law enforcement to prosecute all people who hurt animals.

Russ also has a foundation that takes care of the families of fallen police and fire fighters in the Dallas/Fort Worth Area.

All of this can be confirmed on his website russmartin.com. Do us all a favor and look for some of the idiots who puts some really stupid content on Wikipedia and leave this alone!!!- Ron —Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.47.35.36 (talk) 17:09, 22 September 2007 (UTC) Keep this page. Russ Martin is well known, and well liked; not by all, but by enough to make him #1 in the ratings.

Russ Martin is the #1 DJ in the Dallas Ft. Worth Metroplex in ALL categories. He is a philanthropist, a smart business man, and genuinely cares about the people in his community. Having a Wiki article on Russ will be a credit to this site and drive people to understand the man behind the mic. Please keep this article? Wworland 18:59, 21 September 2007 (UTC)phr3ak9x

Russ Martin has over half a million listeners, a charitable foundation, he sits on the board of a local no kill animal shelter. Why don't you take Paris Hilton off of here. She contributes absolutely nothing to society. You need space toss the vapid celebutants off your site. Scott Burleson, TX

I am a local firefighter/paramedic. This man does more for the local community than any other radio host. His show is the #1 show in the 4th largest metropolitan area in the USA. Thats pretty signifigant. Matt -Carrollton, TX —Preceding unsigned comment added by Matthewwcary (talk • contribs) 05:06, 22 September 2007 (UTC)

I am a long time listener/fan of Russ Martin. He is more than just a DJ. I am sure there are many articles on this site that people dont care about. He has a huge listening audience and is very involved with the local community. As you can see from all of the comments that he is not just a DJ. Please keep the article. Look at the amount of comments generated by this page's suggested deletion. Consider the uniqueness of the individual and listing, his impact on pop culture and even preservation of said culture. Witness the passion the page's subject stirs in others, for good or bad but notable. Examine the subject's contribution to society by helping heroes' widows and orphans and aiding helpless animals. Run the Arbitron numbers. The ratings are out there. People listen to this page's subject. Consider the page's intent. It does inform those who want to know about the subject. [edit] Keep

I like the Russ Martin show and yes Russ is a legend in DFW and yes he is an admitted ass. Despite this he has more publicity than all other radio hosts in the market and more than one or two mentions in newspaper articles and TV news shows. The mentions, which he prefers not happen because he does not want glorification for his doings, range in topic from his desire to assist with animal cruelty and assisting a nonprofit nokill shelter to his deeds as a dedicated believer in the police, fire and military services. They also include topics on practical jokes he may or may not have played on people as well as how he is actually almost the most dominate force in DFW radio. Aside from that he is the not just the guy that came in after Howard 10 years ago, he is the guy that brought a stations ratings back from the brink of extinction. Once he left there it went straight down in ratings. Aside from that, he is also the guy that came before Howard on 105.3 FM back in 2000. Immediately the station change in format and the Russ Martin shows listeners brought it back into existence from a run down country station to an entertaining talk station. Howard is good but he isn't around for anyone unless they now pay for it so why shouldn't we enjoy the most entertaining radio show in DFW and let him have some notoreity here in Wikipedia. Altough he admittedly isn't the brightest bulb in the box, although he does have intelligence, he is worthy of having his own area of entitlement in a place like Wikipedia.

[edit] KEEP!

Russ Martin is highly involved with the Dallas/Ft Worth community. He is known for his charity work benefiting local police and fire fighters as well as animals and for his entertaining radio shows past and present. None of the statements made on the page are original research. He does have those various personas, J.D. is the Grand Dragon, Russ does have an obsession with Batman, etc. Most facts can be verified (with pics) on his website, RussMartin.com. I personally do not see a reason to delete this page. It provides relevant information for an individual wanting more information about Russ Martin. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.244.7.57 (talk) 22:06, 21 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Keep It

To say this the wiki article on Russ is a fan site more than an informational site is inaccurate. Sure, any biographical information about Russ and his show appeals to fans because they reflect the reasons why our adorations are so high. However, a true fan site about Russ Martin must include various pictures of topless women, dogs, PDs in chicken costumes and big headed sidekicks. Anything less, is, well, a wikipedia article.

Keep the article up. His show's contribution to radio and charities alone makes it worthy of place on wikipedia. Tack on his stratospheric ratings, his ability to will people to commit suicide and the fact that he's never been protested by Al Sharpton, and you wonder why he's not headlining news on CNN three nights out of the week. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Mattbeezo (talk • contribs) 03:31, 22 September 2007 (UTC)

Russ Martin and his foundation helped my family after my uncle passed from an accident. My uncle was a police officer and was struck by a drunk driver.. if it wasnt for Russ Martin and his fabulous charity and his amazing sence of loyalty to mankind.. my cousins and aunt would never have had a christmas or celebrate the kids birthdays.. nobody should go without those celebrations. Thank God for Russ Martin. It would be a total shame for this article to be deleted off this encyclopedia. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.253.45.66 (talk) 04:12, 22 September 2007 (UTC)

Whats wrong with Knowing a little about a local dallas celebrity in wikipedia and for other's in texas that commented that he wasn't syndicated you are right he isn't now. But in the past he was syndicated in Austin. This man has done so much for local police, fire, and military. He has won numerous awards for his charity work and has been in radio for more than 25 years. So again what is it that from what I can read is one user launching an attack at the content who doesn't even know what he is referring to as he doesn't know who Russ Martin is. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Aclure (talk • contribs) 22:24, 22 September 2007 (UTC)

And for the people who want documentation to back up the realism of this man try here http://www.dmagazine.com/ME2/dirmod.asp?sid=327D2F719A574639AAA2297B4DC24EBE&nm=&type=ESpotlight&mod=Directories%3A%3AThe+City+Guide&mid=767B7C10F8094FEE90E0BFB2C1390FB8&tier=3&id=FAB3AB4BBDD44C36AE4D748E82C0E19C

this is where D magazine picked him as best radio talk show host. Or here http://www.dallasnews.com/sharedcontent/dws/news/city/denton/stories/DN-westbrfs_07wes.ART.West.Edition1.443201c.html this is where he contributed to a reward in a local animal cruelty case through one of the many charities that he helps. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Aclure (talk • contribs) 22:48, 22 September 2007 (UTC)

KEEP-Russ is more than just a Dallas DJ. I'm pretty sure if you'd ask the families of the fallen officers, they'd tell you the same thing. He started a foundation that donates money to family of fallen police and firemen. I'm not talking $10 or $100. I believe the last check I saw was made out for $30,000. Yes, that's right, thirty thousand dollars!!! I don't know many DJs that have acomplished that. If that's not notable, I don't what is.

I did a google search for Russ Martin and got back 2,510,000 matches. If you need more proof, try these: http://harderbeat.com/archive/march07/html/feature003.html http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=Russ+Martin http://www.everything2.com/index.pl?node_id=1090360 and more.

If that's still not enough, he is in talks to appear in an episode of Boston Legal and the sequel to Bubba Hotep. What else do you need? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Theamazingtif (talk • contribs) 03:29, 23 September 2007 (UTC)

KEEP RUSS MARTIN -- This guy does more for displaced and abused animals than anyone in North Texas -- and that pales in comparison to what he does for the families of fallen police and firefighters within the Dallas/Ft. Worth radio listening area. Blow me Capt. Walker. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Edpete (talk • contribs) 04:21, 23 September 2007 (UTC)
