I've only just realised that this deletion has taken place. I'd just like to register my regret that the deletion took place. The stand-off that had developed regarding the Quizzing.co.uk entry was deeply regrettable and meant that the page had not developed for many months and was very much less informative than it might ideally have been, but I'm not sure that was reason enough to delete it.

The entry should have been retained because Quizzing.co.uk is by some way the largest and most significant of the two entities that hold regular or semi-regular non-televised high-level quiz tournaments at which the UK's best individual quiz players can compete against one another (the other being 123Quiz, formed by Will Jones (jw6aa) after he was forbidden from attending Quizzing.co.uk events).

Quizzing is a mind-sport, albeit one that remains in a state of nascency compared with the likes of chess or scrabble, and Quizzing.co.uk is the principal organiser of national events in the UK, and is also part of the umbrella organisation (the IQA) that runs international events. Other than television gameshows, which are predominantly entertainment rather than competition, no other non-televised national quizzing events currently take place in the UK.

There is an entry on here for the World Quizzing Championships, probably the most prestigious event run under Quizzing.co.uk's auspices, and a short entry for the British Quizzing Championships. That said, I think that the ordinary-course Grand Prix events run by Quizzing.co.uk, featuring as they do many of the UK's leading individual quiz players, are notable enough for winners etc. to be noted on Wikipedia, and it is regrettable that the Quizzing.co.uk entry has been deleted. Others may consider these matters "non-notable" but it is easy from the outside of a particular sub-culture to weigh in with an opinion that that sub-culture is "non-notable" or otherwise lacking in merit. One of the beauties of Wikipedia is its size enables matters that a particular set of people may find very notable (but most people are indifferent to / unaware of / consider trivial) to be covered whereas they would not in an ordinary type of encyclopaedia.

I don't intend to re-open old arguments about who was at fault for the lack of development that characterised the Quizzing.co.uk page but I know that I, along no doubt with others, was put off from making any effort to improve the page because of two squarely opposed parties who seemed to be fighting at all times for ownership of the page, when both should have left well alone.
