Wikipedia talk:Articles for deletion/Jock Tamson's Bairns
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
This adage is widely used in lowland Scotland, probably universally in fact. The traditional band Jock Tamson's Bairns take their name from it and of course it was used by the Scottish National Poet Robert Burns (himself from Ayrshire in lowland Scotland). To suggest it is not known in lowland Scotland is completely incorrect. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by RNA (talk • contribs) 16:19, 7 May 2006(UTC).
- I can find no examples of Robert Burns using the phrase in his work. Could you please cite some? --Nydas 16:41, 7 May 2006 (UTC)
Keep. It is a common expression. Ignorance of a phrase can surely be no reason for wanting it deleted.
Keep! It is a very well known Scottish expression. I don't know where the objector lives but I am 61 years old, born and brought up in Lowland Scotland, now living in Dundee. I have always known the phrase and it is in common use here among all ages. In fact my 12 year old great nephew was recently set an essay to tell a story that illustrated the phrase! The sentiment may be more honoured in the breach than the observance but Scots do pride themselves on their egalitarian spirit. And where on earth do you think the group got their name from?
