[edit] The Solid Muldoon
In 1877, A year after the infamous Cardiff Giant hoax, a "prehistoric human body," was discovered south of Denver, near Beulah, CO. The find was named the "Solid Muldoon", after legendary wrestler William Muldoon, and displayed around the state. Rumor has it that Soapy Smith, an infamous huckster of the era, then brought it to downtown Denver, billing it as the missing link between man and apes and charged ten cents per person to see the 7-foot stone body Following the successful Colorado exhibition, the "Solid Muldoon'" went on the road, attracting crowds all the way to New York City. Rumor has it, P.T. Barnum offered $20,000 for the body. The hoax was eventually revealed to the New York Times as a man-made figure "with a knowing smile on his face as if he was enjoying the joke," one reporter noted, fashioned out of mortar, rock dust, clay, plaster, ground bones, blood and meat. Following the lack of visitors, the "Solid Muldoon" made it's way home, (supposedly)to a marked plot near Highway 78 between Pueblo and Beulah Co. [edit] Pamilia Dimagiba
The hip-hop collective known as Pamilia D. (or P.D. to others) are widely recognized Manila’s premier underground group. Pamila D. is composed of several MC’s (Young Galaxy, [8th Messenger], KD the Encyclopedik, Shadowblyde, Mad Frick, Murder1, Spoon & Dilemma) and award-winning producer extraordinaire DJ Arbie Won aka the Beatraveler. Independent since 1997, the 9-man crew from Manila gained instant respect and recognition when they released their landmark EP Broke-N-Unsigned. To actually bring 9 members of the group to record a song wasn’t easy. But in 1996 the founding fathers 8th Messenger and Spoon were neighbors and childhood friends. They eventually hooked up with this kid from their school (CEU aka Central Escolar University) who made beats for another rap group, Urban Flow. It was from that connection that Pamila D. branched out to more of its current members. Khan’s Assassins (Shadowblyde and Murder1), Iron Triangle formerly known as Soul Snatchaz (KD the Encyclopedik, Mad Frick and Young Galaxy) and 6th Creation (8th Messenger and Spoon) all formed Pamilia D. in 1997. Broke-N-Unsigned was the spearhead release of the group, as each emcee delivered rough, unpolished aggressive lines, and to their credit, birthed them into the hip-hop scene of the P.I. From there many artists requested for a Pamilia D. collaboration on their albums: El Latino, Legit Misfitz, Urban Flow, Fung Zoi, DFT and spots in the United Freestyles Vol. 2 and REkOGNIZE compilation. The year 2000 brought forth another EP release from Pamilia D. in the form of Dra*Manila. More conceptual based than Broke-N-Unsigned but more fluid and musically ripe for newer listeners, that release eventually declared Pamila D. as a legitimate hip-hop crew, while most groups don’t even see the day of light past their debut albums. From there, DJ Arbie eventually worked on solo projects and producing for other artists and the Pamilia D. members fulfilled their duties as students, 9 to 5 jobs and other countless tasks. In a fledging music industry that refuses any sort of risks, Pamilia D. refuses to stand still and let the powers that be initiate some sort of change. Instead of riding on the usual gimmicks, Pamilia D. has set forth on releasing their first full-length album called Third Diagram. Backed again by DJ Arbie and a rejuvenated sense of urgency, this third release seems to be what the hip-hop scene has been lacking for the past five years. A testament of longevity, passion and street credibility, Third Diagram will be the launch pad for the group and even securing each MC with a solo venture. Unlike Dra*Manila where experimentation pushed them to their limits, the group returns to the familiar sound they are renown for, the spiritual, wisdom, street knowledge gumbo we call hip-hop. To many, Third Diagram will push Pamila D’s career further than just cult status but to Olympian heights as the premier underground hip-hop crew to make some noise, even without a major label. [edit] North Beach (film)
[edit] PlotTaking place in San Francisco's North Beach neighborhood over the course of one day, "North Beach" follows the misadventures of Tyler (Casey Peterson), an unemployed slacker who proudly aligns himself alongside the other unemployed bohemians and eccentrics of the neighborhood. Tyler's fondness for cigarettes and booze notwithstanding, are just a part of what get him into hot water when he has a one night stand with a 19 year old stripper. However, Tyler's ineptitude in remembering the events are recounted vigorously by his friends, whom all seem to remember in some respect the infidelity he caused on his girlfriend Paige, who isn't so quick to forgive Tyler for what he did and is seriously considering the idea of giving him the boot. [edit] Lorant, Stefan (Given Name at Birth: Istvan)
Lorant tried more writing plus still photography, and soon was editing the "Munchner Illustrierte Presse," one of Germany's finest picture magazines. Opposed to Hitler, Lorant was imprisoned right after Hitler came to power. Released after six months, he made his way to England, where he wrote "I Was Hitler's Prisoner," a memoir that sold out many printings. He edited the "Weekly Illustrated", a popular British picture magazine, then founded "Lilliput" (made famous by his clever picture juxtapositions, as in Neville Chamberlain versus the llama), and founded with publisher Sir Edward Hulton, the first great British picture magazine, "Picture Post," on October 1, 1938. Lorant soon published a "Picture Post Special" about the United States. Failing to win British citizenship, he decided in July 1940 to go to America, and moved to Lenox, Massachusetts, where he lived the remainder of his life. During his 50-plus years in America, Lorant edited and authored many illustrated books -- including "The New World", the first pictures of America; picture biographies of President Lincoln and other presidents; a history of all the U.S. Presidencies until then, "The Glorious Burden"; a weighty history of Pittsburgh (in many editions, which the notable "Life" photographer W.E. Smith contributed famously to); and a history of Germany from Bismarck to Hitler called "Sieg Heil". Long a friend of the talented and powerful, Lorant championed Sir Winston Churchill before and during World War II, and was a friend of the Kennedys and Marilyn Monroe. He gave advice to "Life" founder Henry Luce around the time of that magazine's startup in 1936, and he edited the works of many leading photographers while in Europe, including Felix Man, Kurt Hutton, Alfred Eisenstaedt, and Robert Capa. Lorant married Laurie Jean Robertson in 1963; they divorced in 1978. He fathered two sons: Mark, who died at age 19 in an auto accident, and Christopher. Stefan Lorant died in Rochester, Minnesota on November 14, 1997. [edit] Sources"Stefan Lorant: Godfather of Photojournalism," by Michael Hallett, Lanham, Md.: Scarecrow Press, 2005. [edit] The Royal Foundation of St Katharine,
St. Katharine's is one of the oldest religious foundations in Great Britain. It was founded in 1147 by Queen Matilda, the wife of King Stephen, when it was a hospital for the poor, situated outside the walls of the Tower of London. In 1825. the construction of St. Katharine Docks caused it to be moved to a site in Regent’s Park. In 1948 Queen Mary moved the Foundation back to East London, taking over the site of St. James Ratcliffe Church, at Limehouse, which had suffered severe bomb damage in the Second World War. The new location is about a mile from its original 12th century site. Throughout its history, the Queens of England have been the sole Patrona of the Foundation. H.M. Queen Elizabeth II, the Foundation’s present Patron, succeded her mother on her death in 2002.

[edit] British Indian
A British Indian is a resident and/or citizen of the United Kingdom who is either Indian-born or of Indian origin. Britain has a large population of Indian origin due to British India once being the most populous portion of the former British Empire, and the subsequent pattern of immigration after its independence. [edit] HistoryNo one actually knows the earliest origins of settlement of Indians in the British Isles for certain; if the Romani (Gypsies) are included, then the earliest arrivals may have been in the Middle Ages — although not normally included as South Asian, the Roma and Sinti (most in the UK have been Sinti) are both believed to have originated in parts of what is now North India and Pakistan and to have begun travelling westward around 1000 CE, though they have mixed with Southwest Asians and Europeans over the centuries. Romani began arriving in sizeable numbers in parts of Western Europe in the 16th century. People from India have settled in Great Britain since the East India Company (EIC) recruited lascars to replace vacancies in their crews on East Indiamen whilst on voyages in India. Many were then refused passage back, and were marooned in London. There were also some ayahs, domestic servants and nannies of wealthy British families, who accompanied their employers back to "Blighty" when their stay in Asia came to an end. The Navigation Act of 1660 restricted the employment of non-English sailors to a quarter of the crew on returning East India Company ships. Baptism records in East Greenwich suggest that young Indians from the Malabar Coast were being recruited as servants at the end of the seventeenth century., and records of the EIC also suggest that Indo-Portuguese cooks from Goa were retained by captains from voyage to voyage.[11] In 1797, 13 were buried in the parish of St Nicholas at Deptford. Following the Second World War and the break up of the British Empire, Indian migration to the UK increased through the 1950s and 1960s, at the same time as immigrants from former Caribbean colonies were also moving to Britain. Although this immigration was continuous, several distinct phases can be identified: Manual workers were recruited to fulfill the labour shortage that resulted from World War II. These included Anglo-Indians who were recruited to work on the railways as they had done in India. Workers mainly from the Punjab region of India arrived in the 1950s and 1960s. Many worked in the foundries of the English Midlands and a large number worked at Heathrow Airport in West London. During the same time, medical staff from the Indian subcontinent were recruited for the newly formed National Health Service. These people were targeted as the British had established medical schools in the Indian subcontinent which conformed to the British standards of medical training. During the 1960s and 1970s, large numbers of East African Asians, who already held British passports, entered the UK after they were expelled from Kenya, Uganda and Zanzibar. Many of these people had been store-keepers in Africa and opened shops when they arrived in the UK, thereby reviving the traditional British corner-shop which until that point had been in decline. The Commonwealth Immigrants Act 1962 and Immigration Act 1971 largely restricted any further primary immigration, although family members of already-settled migrants were still allowed. In addition, much of the subsequent growth in the British Indian community has come from the births of second- and third-generation Britons of Indian origin. [edit] DemographicsAccording to the 2001 UK Census there are 1.05 million British Indians, making up 1.8% of the population of the United Kingdom. British Indians tend to be religiously diverse, with 45% Hindu, 29% Sikh, and 13% per cent Muslim. The unemployment rate in Indians in UK is about 7%, comparable to that of the White British. [7] [8] Indian pupils are likely to achieve among the highest grades in schools. [9] Persons of Indian or mixed Indian origin are more likely than White British to have college degrees [10] British Indians tend to originate mainly from two Indian States, Punjab and Gujarat. However, in recent years, there has been significant Hindu-Tamil immigration from Sri Lanka. [edit] Influence on popular cultureThe biggest influence of British Indians on popular culture has probably been the so-called Indian restaurant. A recent poll found that chicken tikka masala has surpassed fish and chips in terms of popularity as the national dish.[12] Chicken tikka masala, like the popular balti, is itself a British Indian invention. Bhangra music has in addition become popular among many in the general British public (especially younger people)[13] not only from the works of British Asian musicians such as Panjabi MC, Rishi Rich, Jay Sean and Juggy D but also incorporated into the works of a number of non-desi musicians not only British but including American artists such as Britney Spears, who has been influenced by British Indian Bhangra producer Rishi Rich, as well as African American artists such as Jay-Z, 50 Cent and Bobby Valentino. The films East is East, Chicken Tikka Masala and Bend It Like Beckham and the TV shows Goodness Gracious Me and The Kumars at No. 42 have managed to attract large, multi-ethnic audiences. [edit] British Indians in popular cultureEarly British Asian stars include Sabu Dastagir, who had been famous for playing non-specific foreigners in British and Hollywood films, fondly remembered for his lead roles in The Thief of Bagdad and Jungle Book. Since the 1970s, British Asian performers and writers have achieved significant mainstream cultural success. The first British Asian to gain wide popularity in the UK and worldwide fame was the late Freddie Mercury (born Farrokh Bulsara), who led the rock band Queen, although most people may be unaware of his ethnicity. [edit] unsanctum - band featured on numerous other wikipedia pages
Formed during the latter fall of 2001 by Tom (Vocals) and Paul (Guitars), a few songs were written and recorded, most of which never saw the light of day. In the coming months, however, following a few minor changes, Sean (Drums) and David (Bass) completed the Unsanctum line-up. One of the first live shows was in support of Belgian metalcore act Reprisal (Goodlife records). On an extreme budget, the first material was a four track demo, recorded by Mick Kenney (Anaal Nathrakh, Mistress, Frost) on the 31st of December 2001 at Necrodeath studio's in Birmingham, which eventually saw daylight in late January 2002. The four tracks (in all clocking 10 minutes 37 seconds) pointed out the future musical direction of Unsanctum and also gained the band positive reviews and the necessary exposure. After copious amounts of promotional material, Unsanctum signed with Cacophonous/Visible Noise records in July 2002. On December 7th 2002 at Necrodeath studio's in Birmingham with producer Mick Kenney, Unsanctum began the recording of 11 tracks for their debut album to be released on Cacophonous/Visible Noise records in early 2003. "Ignite the skies" was remixed and remastered 3 times. The initial recording was considered so substandard that both the guitar and bass tracks were rerecorded at Bonafide Studio's in London during February 2003. This is not to say that the album wasn't everything we had hoped for, but simply, due to the amount of time wasted and damage done in the early stages of production, we were so far behind schedule, that unfortunately, perfection was not an option. In April 2003, Unsanctum accepted an endorsement from Bc Rich guitars. "Ignite the skies" was released on the 23rd of June 2003 through Cacophonous records and distributed by Pinnacle worldwide. Amongst other feedback, it recieved a KKKK rating in Kerrang and an 8/10 rating in Metal Hammer. In July 2003, Unsanctum accepted an endorsement from Jagermeister. In August 2003, Unsanctum set off on their second UK tour with Burning Skies (Lifeforce records), playing 12 consecutive shows around the UK, receiving a 4/5 live review in Kerrang and an 8/10 live review in Metal Hammer. On Halloween 2003, Unsanctum performed a live soundtrack to the silent classic "The Cabinet Of Dr Caligari" to a sold out audience at the Victoria & Albert Museum in London. Following a number of high profile shows, Unsanctum completed a third UK tour with Walls Of Jericho (Trustkill records) in November 2003. The close of 2005 saw an overwhelming response to a limited press three track demo titled "Adamantium Rage", the first new Unsanctum recording in over 2 years. In February 2006, David (Bass) decided to leave the band, he was the first and only member to leave the band since the band confirmed their original line-up in 2001, and was replaced by Chris (Vultures, Lost Cause, Atlas) shortly after. In March 2007, after 3 years in the making, work finally ceased on the follow-up to "Ignite the skies". The bands second full length, to be titled "Ritual killing", marked their return to the UK metal scene. [edit] Monsterville
A odd being: part human and part troll. Known around the globe for its replusive nature and hunger for children. The name's orgin has been linked to a small village in France called Ville, also the place that the word "ville" is believed to have orginated, where legend has it a half human/half troll "monster" would come from the hills nearby when the moon was full and ransack clotheslines for mens' undergarmets. Sometimes during his(?) raids the "ville"-agers would make claims of pets and livestock to be with child. They say still today when the moon is full and its a quiet night you can sometimes smell vomit and hear donkeys cry. [edit] Jennifer Rene
So not even a year later, she bought a computer and a mic and sat down to record her very first sample of vocals with them. She took the first take she ever recorded on it and sent it to a friend to get an overall opinion. This friend had a close connection with trance producer Jose Amnesia, whom he sent the sample too, unknowingly to Jennifer. Next day Jennifer was contacted by Jose to record more vocals for this small sample and in a short period of time Jose Amnesia Feat. Jennifer Rene "Louder" was born. "Louder" was an instant success and picked up by record label Armind through Armada music, owned by world reknown DJ Armin van Buuren who was a big fan, debuting "Louder" in the ASOT 250 live show that played for millions of listeners and continues to play in clubs all across the globe. Markus Schulz being a big fan as well chose "Louder" to appear on his Ibiza 2006 album. But being just a singer isn't where this girl is going to stop. Jennifer's all-time passion is to become a DJ. Recently acquiring the necessary equipment, Jennifer Rene taught herself the basics of the decks in less than a month and is in the process of getting her DJ career started. "From the first time I walked into a real club, and saw a real DJ, playing real dance music, any thoughts of what I had thought I wanted to be were washed away. Then and there that night, I realized, I was born to do that." However, being just a singer/DJ isn't where this girl is going to stop either. Jennifer knows one day she will move into producing and remixing as well. "I want to do it all. Because this music has done everything and more for me." Jennifer Rene is currently hard at work writing and recording new material and has many exciting projects waiting just around the corner, She can't wait to begin performing and DJing live. Watch out, because this girl has only just begun to show what she is capable of.
