Well, we can ask the Navy to reproduce the information. baloo_rch 01:19, 24 May 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Templates
The spanish article uses two templates, one of the War of the Pacific and other or its Chilean heroes. I don't think there are equivalent templates in the english wikipedia. Anyone care to create them, or isn't really worth it as very few of the articles linked exist in english?
[edit] Re-organization is needed
Arturo Prat is an important Hero for Chile, and I believe that this articles only confuses the reader (any non-chilean) with so much information that does not involves him at any rate. Messhermit 16:10, 5 February 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Think about cutting this, guys....
I rewrote the introduction to make the article more comprehensible to non-Chileans.
With all due respect, the article is far too long, and goes into far too much detail as to Prat's life and career. This is especially onerous as Arturo Prat was not a particularly noteworthy figure when alive — after all, he lost the Battle of Iquique. His importance was as a political symbol, not for anything he did during his lifetime. This conclusion might sound harsh, but it is true.
To the community monitoring this article, I would request that you all come to a consensus as to this article and cut it to a more manageable length. As an editor, I will limit my own involvement to making sure that the introduction to the article is relevant and conscise.
Good luck to you all. --MILH 21:50, 24 May 2006 (UTC)
- I believe that what you have just said is accurate. It is true that Prat (just like any soldier before achieving glory while serving his country) was not a well know figure in Chile. This article should focus on the most relevant information from that period, his accions on the Battle and his legacy. Messhermit 02:19, 25 May 2006 (UTC)
- Prat's sacrifice made the war popular between chileans. Before his death the war was very unpopular and enlistment was low. He is the greatest war hero after the Independence War. Although I agree that the article is rather long, his importance to Chilean history cannot be overstated. Last, and not least, I believe that it is preferable to have extra secondary information, than to cut and the someone coming here and not finding what he's searching. - Sorry about the Huáscar/Esmeralda mix-up in the opening paragraph! Me bad. --MILH 13:06, 25 May 2006 (UTC)
I think that the battle of Iquique needs a proper page; it is not to be discussed al large here.
I suggest to move this part to a new page.Milton 17:08, 27 September 2006 (UTC)
- There's one already: Battle of Iquique. --Reuben 17:42, 27 September 2006 (UTC)
