The 6 arrondissements of the Nord department are:

  1. Arrondissement of Avesnes-sur-Helpe, (subprefecture: Avesnes-sur-Helpe) with 12 cantons and 151 communes. The population of the arrondissement was 245,460 in 1990, and was 238,466 in 1999, a decrease of 2.85%.
  2. Arrondissement of Cambrai, (subprefecture: Cambrai) with 7 cantons and 116 communes. The population of the arrondissement was 162,162 in 1990, and was 158,845 in 1999, a decrease of 2.05%.
  3. Arrondissement of Douai, (subprefecture: Douai) with 7 cantons and 64 communes. The population of the arrondissement was 247,015 in 1990, and was 246,987 in 1999, a decrease of 0.01%.
