Arod (Sindarin)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Arod is a Sindarin word meaning "noble," appearing on a sword named Hadhafang, in the book The Lord of the Rings: Weapons and Warfare, by Chris Smith, 2003, ISBN 0618391002. It apparently refers to Arwen, whose name means "Noble Lady," and who receives the sword from her father, Elrond.
In Smith's book, the word is mistakenly transliterated as "around," the victim of an over-zealous spell-checker (computer or human). The Tengwar inscription on the sword gives us the correct spelling.
