Hi Arne Padmos. Linotype is a liscensor, not the creator. The real source should be what the Montotype foundry called it. As to the roman name, I understand that refers to the non-italic form of the face. And I hate hearing the text weights of faces labled "roman" as a weight name when it is really not a weight. This said in the case of Times, I htink we should base the naming on what its creators called it, not an early twenty-first century website. Between Linotype, Monotype, Microsoft and a host of other organiozations selling, reselling and bundling the face with software many names are used. Some are created to satisfy copyright law, to avoid infringement. I have several books in my ofice, some going back to the time of the face's creation, I think it might be best to cite those sources.
