[edit] Times
Hi Arne Padmos. Times New Roman is a typeface name. Stanley Morison, one of its creators refers to it iwth that name in his writing, and in 1930s specimen sheets. CApitol3 11:37, 30 April 2007 (UTC)
Hi Arne Padmos, sorry, Morison called it "Times Roman" not Times. CApitol3 11:40, 30 April 2007 (UTC)
Hi Arne Padmos. Linotype is a liscensor, not the creator. The real source should be what the Montotype foundry called it. As to the roman name, I understand that refers to the non-italic form of the face. And I hate hearing the text weights of faces labled "roman" as a weight name when it is really not a weight. This said in the case of Times, I htink we should base the naming on what its creators called it, not an early twenty-first century website. Between Linotype, Monotype, Microsoft and a host of other organiozations selling, reselling and bundling the face with software many names are used. Some are created to satisfy copyright law, to avoid infringement. I have several books in my ofice, some going back to the time of the face's creation, I think it might be best to cite those sources. Will try to take a look at them later this week. BTW, you can "sign" your messages on discussion boards by typing 4 tildes. Best, Jim CApitol3 11:54, 30 April 2007 (UTC)
Okay, "Times Roman" it is. Thanks. Jim CApitol3 12:07, 30 April 2007 (UTC)
