State Route 97 starts at State Route 96 south of Bagdad and heads southwest, ending at U.S. Route 93 in the Santa Maria Mountains.

The southern terminus of SR 97 is located at a junction with US 93 northwest of Wickenburg. The highway initially heads north before curving towards the northeast. It reaches its northern terminus at a junction with SR 96 south of Bagdad.[1]
