Area is an academic journal published by the Royal Geographical Society. The Journal has an impact factor of 1.135 and although the journal is non-specialized and covers the whole of geography it tends to attract articles from human geography and environmental geography and has recently appointed a new co-editor with specific responsibility for attracting physical geography articles. Area is also an outline for postgraduates and academics in their early careers. In 2005 the ISI Journal Citation Reports Ranking placed the journal 19 out of 38 in geography.
