Iraqi citizens pass an Iraqi Police checkpoint, during a pilgrimage to Karbala for the celebration of Arbaeen during Operation IRAQI FREEDOM. For Shia Muslims, the Arbaeen is the ending of a 40 day mourning that started with Ashura on February 19th. The Ashura festival commemorates the death of Imam Hussein, the grandson of the Prophet Mohammed in 680 AD in his fight for control of the Muslim leadership. - 28 March 2005.
