There is a curious French booklet by De Nettancourt (C.-J.), Recherches sur l’Acqua Tofana (Paris, Letouzey & Ané, 1888), where the author explains that: 1. the main constituent of Acqua Toffana was an extract of Spanish Fly; 2. Acqua Toffana has been especially used by freemasons, in the nineteenth century, to kill their enemies!!! Hence its name of "Masonic poison"!!
