Talk:API

As to the best redirect for API, the most common usage is Application Programming Interface. Just take a look at the What Links Here page. That's why I'm changing the redirect back. Harryboyles 12:06, 8 June 2006 (UTC)

I agree. I've found three or four pages linking to American Petroleum Institute and have fixed them. A couple other topics, but the vast majority (more than 340, compared to three or four) are to application programming interface. As a part of the Wikipedia:Disambiguation pages with links effort, I'm moving API to redirect to application programming interface again. -- Mikeblas 19:05, 16 September 2006 (UTC)
I've reveted a change to make this page a disambiguation page, which was obviously done without reviewing the history of the article or this talk page. API is already disambiguated at API (disambiguation), and the two terms on the page I reverted are already among the dozen or so on the (disambiguation) page. -- Mikeblas 18:53, 10 October 2006 (UTC)

There are too many other uses for the software development definition to dominate. --Treekids 19:27, 1 October 2007 (UTC)

  • It is not that there are too many other uses, that is not the issue. The issue is around bias in Wikipedia editors toward people who actually know what an API is. The measure that applies here is the person-on-the-(American/UK/Canadian)street test: if you walk up to someone on the street and ask "what does API mean?", what answers will you get. In most cases you will get a blank look. If you did the same test with "SOS" or "TWA" (umm, depending upon the age of the person), you are likely to get a more consistent response. --User:Ceyockey (talk to me) 14:39, 16 February 2008 (UTC)
