Hi Apecat, and welcome to Wikipedia.

Thankyou for finding the time to sign up and contribute to our little project. If you're in doubt about anything, you might want to check out some of these pages:

It's also a good idea to sign the new user log and add a little about yourself.

When contributing to a talk page, you can sign your name by typing four tildes after your comments, like this: ~~~~. Some people do not pay attention to unsigned comments. An important note: Please do not add this signature to encyclopedia articles you may edit, even if you have created them. Wikipedia articles are owned by the community, not by any one person.

If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask me at my talk page, or at the Help desk or Village Pump.

But above all, make sure you be bold when contributing, and have fun!

[edit] Little help

Hi, Apecat! Could you help me translating a stub about Spiritism to the Finnish Wikipedia? As far as I'm concerned there's no such an article on that Wiki... Arges 16:56, 25 October 2006 (UTC)

Hi, Apecat! I had really forgot the existence of that article... Perhaps because I've being working on articles related to that subject in many different Wikis, and that one is a bit different from the others. If you take a quick look in the first paragraphs of the English version you'll realise that the Finnish one is more focused on a kind of related subject, the Spiritualism, instead of Spiritsm properly. That's it. Arges 18:09, 27 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] La Fonera

You know you're right. The prongs are different, but the NA one has the same shape and size to it, a subtle difference but I didn't notice it until I looked closer, good catch.--Crossmr 04:54, 20 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Removal of valid FON content

Why did you remove the historical background of FON, and the market they are working in? The information is clearly beneficial for understanding the concept FON are capitalizing on. Also links to other similar communities would be beneficial as well as alternative solutions. --Klutus 02:05, 25 April 2007 (UTC)

  • The stuff i removed was anything but smoothly written, it was thrown into the beginning ouf the article quite of context linguistically. There is probably nothing wrong about the same info (it would even be interesting) if it was to be written into the article in a proper way. Putting a "historical note" as a first paragraph even before the introduction of the subject of the article does not fit into the expected style, and when it contains loaded words, there is no reason whatsoever to keep it. Feel free to link to other articles and pages under FON#See also and FON#External links; to help improve the overall quality and credibility of this humble encyclopedia project, the use of footnotes and valid, reliable sources would be even more appreciated.

My suggestion for placing references to other successful WiFi sharing communities would be inside the third paragraph; ("Though the company is viewed as a WiFi community, and does subsidize the customized routers sold in its online store, it is a for profit company. Fon makes money by charging a usage fee to "Aliens" for day passes which can be used to connect to the internet through a Fon access point. "Bills" are also charged a reduced usage fee when they connect to the internet through another user's router.").

Finally, the most obvious reason to revert a lot of edits was that the user identified through the ip 84.9.129.76 removed all images from the article with no reason specified. When editing articles, please write something meaningful in the edit summary field. There is no need to remove freely licensed, public domain or fair use protected images for other than stylistic purposes. apecat 09:02, 25 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Fair use rationale for Image:SnowflakeGorilla.jpg

Image:SnowflakeGorilla.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.
