See page 19 of the ICJ judgement: treaty of 7 January 1935. Though the judgement makes it clear that Libya's argument was based chiefly on a claim going back to the Ottoman empire -- I'll see if the article needs revising.

Its not still disputed, is it? If not, we can remove Category:Geography of Libya and Category:Disputed territories. Picaroon 23:00, 4 February 2007 (UTC)

• Libya agreed to be bound by the ICJ judgement so it would be correct to remove Category:Disputed territories; I'll do that now -- I guess there's no category for "Former disputed territories" that it can be transferred to. Not so sure about Category:Geography of Libya because the Aouzou Strip defines much of the southern boundary of Libya and is therefore relevent. The map that illustrates the article "Geography of Libya" shows the Aouzou strip (though there's no reference in the text of the article). Kahuzi 23:59, 4 February 2007 (UTC)
