The heavily damaged Japanese cruiser Aoba off Buin, Bougainville on October 13, 1942 after the Battle of Cape Esperance. Photographed from the Japanese cruiser Chokai. An Imperial Japanese Government photo which is considered public domain by the US government. Also, under Japanese copyright law, images authored by the former Japanese Imperial Government are public domain.
