[edit] Birth Place
I've seen sources that list Anthony Field's birth place as Kellyville rather than Camperdown. Can anyone verify? --Faustus37 17:17, 9 June 2006 (UTC)
What sources? (Which is the problem with this article as it stands, but that's another section.) The Wiggles homepage lists Sydney as Anthony's birthplace, so that's what I'm gonna put. Figureskatingfan 04:23, 2 August 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Sources
Or the lack thereof. So I'm fixing it, and editing this article so that it better fulfills Wikipedia's policy about the biography of living persons. Anything that I couldn't find a source for will be gone. Many of the links to the references are broken, so I'm fixing that as well. Figureskatingfan 04:23, 2 August 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Major Edit
I have completely overhauled this page. I have cleaned up the content, corrected errors, fixed links, and improved the references. I believe it now better fulfills the policy about the bios of living persons. Some things to note are:
- I deleted the Trivia section, and folded in some of its content into the body of the article, as per policy. I may add it some things later on, like Anthony's presence at Steve Irwin's funeral and the Thank God You're Here episode.
- I edited the content about Anthony's family. Policy states to avoid mentioning someone's children by name; Anthony currently has three kids anyway.
- I couldn't find anything more dependable than TV.com that supports that Anthony or his brothers attended St. Joseph's College, and that they started The Cockroaches there. I kept it because it's interesting and so very Harry Potter. If someone could find a more satisfying source, that'd be great.
- I deleted the Cleo Magazine box. It's the Wiggles' philosophy to keep things clean, and it's certain that children will visit this page. I simply linked the Wikipedia article for accuracy sake.
[edit] New Picture
I've re-uploaded Anthony's picture and put it back here. Obviously, I'm still learning how to upload pictures so that they're not deleted! Before anyone deletes, please teach me what I need to do to prevent. Hopefully, I got it right now. I'm new to editing Wikipedia, and sincerely want to follow procedure and policy, especially for The Wiggles pages. Thank you.
uM, HOW IS THIS GUY COMPARABLE TO mICK jAGGER? jAGGER DIDN'T FOUND THE sTONES, bRIAN jONES DID. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.13.142.174 (talk) 15:52, 13 September 2007 (UTC)
Perhaps, but the article that I referenced made the comparison, so it fits. Please do not make these kinds of edits; it borders on vandalism. And please remember to sign your comments and edits. --Figureskatingfan 17:04, 13 September 2007 (UTC)
Sorry, I read that article and the comment about Anthony being compared to Mick Jagger was taken out of context. It was a joke. The Wiggles was comparing Sam Moran to Ronnie Wood of the Rolling Stones because he is the new guy. Then the author said that Anthony would be like Mick Jagger because of his extroverted and funny personality. I think it should be removed. It's very misleading. I get your point. I went back and re-read the article, and you're right--the comparisons of The Wiggles to The Rolling Stones were developed out of a joke Murray made about Sam being like Ronnie Wood because he's the new guy. I'm not sure that it makes the comparisons invalid, though, since the tone of the article is serious. Let's discuss the matter more, and if the case is made, we can delete it for clarity's sake. (It's true that The Wiggles have also been compared to The Beatles in other places, but that's not appropriate for this article. Looks like I'm arguing against myself, huh? ;) --Figureskatingfan 22:47, 4 October 2007 (UTC)
The sentence in the wikipedia article is saying that he is compared to Mick Jagger because he is a founding member who came up with the idea for the wiggles. But the article is saying he is compared to Mick Jagger as a joke and the author was just comparing him personality wise. Also only one person was comparing him to Mick Jagger and it was taken out of context. No other source does that. I don't doubt Anthony's musical talents and creative ideas in making the Wiggles, but he is not compared to Mick Jagger because of it. The Mick Jagger comment should just go. You can mention his ideas in creating the Wiggles. Azn Clayjar 16:36, 5 October 2007 (UTC)
- I haven't seen the article in question, but I tend to agree with Azn. Unless there is a solid reason for making the comparison, off hand comments aren't encyclopedic. Eg has the comparison been used in multiple sources? Is it accepted by many? Would the rationale make sense to somebody else? For example, Phillip Wilcher is compared to Pete Best because he, like the Fifth Beatle, left the group under questionable circumstances shortly before the groups international success. Once you know the facts surrounding Best and Wilcher, the comparison is obvious.Balloonman 17:31, 5 October 2007 (UTC)
Okey dokey. I will go ahead and make the changes. --Figureskatingfan 18:16, 5 October 2007 (UTC)
Thanks, Figureskatingfan. I figure you put so much work into the article, I just voice my concerns to you. Azn Clayjar 20:33, 8 October 2007 (UTC)
- You're welcome. I have two little kids and we watch The Wiggles everyday, so "the guys" are near and dear to my heart and deserving of a good article. I like the back-and-forth nature of Wikipedia, as long as it's helpful and respectful. Which you are!
- That being said, I had to laugh when I came upon an article this very morning about Sam Moran that--you won't believe it!--compares him to Ron Wood! But like the other article in question, it was said in jest, so due to that and our discussion, I promise that I won't add it back in. Again, it doesn't fit. (I will, however, use some of the other info in Sam's article.) --Figureskatingfan 22:18, 8 October 2007 (UTC)
That's funny. But thanks for not adding it to the article. I like the Wiggles. At least their songs are not annoying like Barney. My son can't get enough of them and he is less than 3 years old. My daughter is still too young yet. Azn Clayjar 19:44, 12 October 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Religion
Why does the last section on his Catholicism read like he's dead? Everything's in the past tense. --ScreaminEagle (talk) 00:51, 20 February 2008 (UTC)
- Because this article really needs a copy-edit. Feel free to help out, if you are able. --Figureskatingfan (talk) 03:30, 20 February 2008 (UTC)
