Antonio Armijo
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Antonio Armijo was a Spanish explorer and merchant who was famous for leading the first commercial caravan party across the Las Vegas Valley in 1829.[1] He and the Mexicans named the area "Las Vegas" which is Spanish for "the meadows" after following a tributary up from the Colorado River[2], after he originally intended to travel and create a new trade route from New Mexico to Los Angeles, California.[3]
