Anthoxanthum is a large genus of true grass with a cosmopolitan distribution. Members of the genus are commonly known as vernalgrass in the United States.
A. odoratum can be found in certain parts of northern Europe; in particular it is sometimes found in acidic bogs such as its occurrence at the Portlethen Moss Nature Reserve in Scotland.
