Anthony Ashley-Cooper, 9th Earl of Shaftesbury

Anthony Ashley-Cooper, 9th Earl of Shaftesbury, KP, GCVO, CBE, PC (31 August 186925 March 1961) was a British peer, the son of Anthony Ashley-Cooper, 8th Earl of Shaftesbury.

He married Lady Constance Grosvenor (22 August 18758 July 1957), daughter of Victor Grosvenor, Earl Grosvenor, on 15 July 1899. They had four children:

Lord Shaftesbury was Lord Lieutenant of Belfast from 1904 to 1911, Lord Lieutenant of Antrim from 1911 to 1916, Lord Lieutenant of Dorset from 1916 to 1952, and Lord Steward from 1922 to 1936.

He helped J. G. Jeffreys found Bryanston School in Dorset in 1928 and became Chairman of the Governors.[1]

He died in 1961 and his titles passed to his grandson, Anthony Ashley-Cooper, Lord Ashley.
