Antha Naal is a Tamil film is directed by S.Balachander (popularly called as Veenai Balachander). It is probably the first film-noir in Tamil Cinema. And the first Tamil film without songs. The movie is based on Akira Kurosawa's classic Rashômon. The screenplay writer has also acted in the movie as CID officer investigating the case.

On the night of October 11th, 1943, Japanese bombed Chennai and there was commotion all over the city. The next day morning Rajan(Sivaji Ganesan), a radio engineer and communications researcher, is murdered by his hand gun. Chinnaiah Pillai, his neighbor, hears the shot and complains to the police. A local inspector Naidu and C.I.D. officer Sivanandam(Jawar Seetharaman) investigate this case by enquiring 5 characters Rajan's wife Usha (Pandari Bai), Chinnaiah Pillai, Rajan's brother Pattabi, sister-in-law Hema and dancer Ambujam(also Rajan's Mistress). Everybody recounts an incident which points to a new suspect. Sivanandham then uses the clues in victim's room and finds the real killer in a twist of events.
