Anonymization is about the methods to achieve anonymity, i.e. the removal of a person-related information that could be used for backtracking from, say, patient data to the actual patient. Anonymization is a more demanding task than pseudonymization, because even a combination of non-personal features can usually be exploited to at least narrow the choice from among a limited number of people.
