Description

The prototype ANITA electronic calculator of 1958, with some of the covers removed to reveal components inside, on display in the en:Science Museum, en:London, en:United Kingdom. The mirror mounted behind the calculator allows the rear circuit board to be seen, with its en:vacuum tubes (grey) and en:capacitors (yellow).

This is a "full-keyboard" machine, similar to the mechanical "en:Comptometer" calculators of the time. Each decade of the display has a column of keys from 1 to 9 (0 is the default). The full-keyboard is very fast in operation since a trained operator could use the fingers of both hands to enter a complete number in one movement. The calculator logic was designed to cope with this.

If you want to view this machine in the en:Science Museum you are advised to contact the museum beforehand to confirm that it is still on display.
