[edit] Facilities
ACS (Junior) has a total of 38 classrooms. Most of the 38 classrooms are air-conditioned as now they are constructing new developments nearby. ACS (Junior) follows the system where students are based in a classroom and the teachers move from class to class. The school also has four computer laboratories where the teachers can take the students to as supplement to their lessons. There are two music rooms just outside the main teaching block. Next to the music rooms, there are rooms which the teachers and students refer to as "Containers" They are used for supplementary or remedial lessons after school hours. A small room called "The Den" is located near the music rooms for prayer meetings or other activities.
[edit] CCAs
It is compulsory for a student in Primary 4 or higher to take at least one co-curricular activity (CCA).
There anre numerous CCA's such as Art Club, the Dance Club, The Concert Band, The Director's Cut, The Boys Brigage, THe Caddet Scouts and Badminton. These are just some of the numerous CCA's
[edit] Weekly Programs
There are many programes that go on weekly such as Showcase Friday, Talent Tuesday and Record Breaking Thursday.
During Talent Tuesday, the students can do anything to their talent before assembly, in the school Shaw auditorum. Showcase Friday brings about innovation in the students. They can busk and sell things.
[edit] Prefectorial Board
The prefectorial board is elected by the teaching and administrations staff every year and are formally appointed during Prefects Investiture Day. The Prefectorial Board is made up by members of the Council, AM prefects (Primary 5 & 6), PM prefects (Primary 4) and PM trainee prefects (Primary 3). The head prefect is Choy Zhen Han, Augustine and the deputy head prefects are Chew Chia Shao Yuan and Jonathan Loke Teng Fai.
[edit] Odyssey Of The Mind
Odyssey of the Mind is the biggest non-curricular acctivity that has been going on in the school. Every year since 2003, the school sends numerous teams to compete in 5 different problems (visit [www.odysseyofthemind.com]) at either national standard, or competing at a university in the USA for either the prestigious Ranatra Fusca award (which was clinched by the 2003 pioneer team), the top 10 tittle and. The 2007 world champion title was also clinched by the school.
This year, the school has sent in 3 national champion teams to the world finals. The teams are made up of 7 members, and all the students have to do the props, skit, vehicle and balsa structure, by themselves, which means strictly no outside helping, but only hinting. This way, the students learn more, as they have to think of the solution themselves. All the coaches, parents and teachers abide the Odyssey of the Mind rules of 'no telling, only hinting'.
Occasionally, there is some mentoring, from their seniors that visit them frequently, also abiding to the rules of the competition. Their seniors mostly come from ACS barker road, and are also participaing in the World Finals for Odyssey of The Mind. This act of very strong brotherliness was only innitiated this year, between ACS BR, ACSJ and ACJC.
