Angelo Comastri (born 17 September 1943 in Sorano, Italy) is the current Cardinal President of the Fabric of Saint Peter and Vicar General of His Holiness for the State of Vatican City.

He was educated at the Seminary of Pitigliano and the Pontifical Lateran University where he earned a licentiate in theology.

[edit] Priesthood

He was ordained on 11 March 1967, parish church of Sorano. He served as Vice-rector of the Minor Seminary of Pitigliano and, at the same time, pastoral work in the parish of S. Quirico. He went to Rome and became officer of the S. C. Consistorial. Spiritual director of the Pontifical Minor Roman Seminary, Rome; and pastoral work in Roman jails. When he returned to his diocese he was named rector of the Seminary of Pitigliano in 1971.

In 1990 he was made Bishop of Massa Marittima-Piombino. In 1996 he became Archbishop and papal delegate and prelate of the Territorial prelature of Loreto. In 2005 he was appointed President of the Fabric of Saint Peter. Pope Benedict XVI made him Archpriest of St. Peter's Basilica and Vicar General for the portion of the diocese of Rome within Vatican City on 31 October 2006.

Comastri was elevated to the College of Cardinals in the consistory at St. Peter's Basilica on 24 November 2007 becoming Cardinal-Deacon of S. Salvatore in Lauro.
