Hi Andy,

Thank you for stopping by and dropping a (very polite) note on my talk page. I'll do my best to answer your questions here, and will be more than happy to help you develop an article for PatentCafe that is suitable for Wikipedia.

First, I just want to clarify that I am not actually the individual who deleted the article--according to the deletion log (accessible by clicking this link), that honor belongs to NawlinWiki, an administrator here on Wikipedia. While I am indeed the one who tagged the page as subject to speedy deletion, I just want to assure you it was not a unilateral decision, and the fact that it was removed means that two people were in agreement about the nature of the page.

Now, regarding the nature of the page! I did indeed take note of the fact that the page was well-constructed, but the thing that caused me to tag the page was the language used on it. A corporation's Wikipedia article is designed to give the reader neutral, objective information about the company—when was it founded, where is it located, what kind of products does it offer, etc. What caused me to tag the page was the overuse of adjectives describing those services; in short, I couldn't imagine that someone who is not an employee of PatentCafe would write about it in that manner. Furthermore, this writing style was pervasive to the point that I concluded a full rewrite would be required to purge it, and that it would be better starting over.

Now, as far as writing an article that will be kept, I first need to make sure that you are aware of the proper policies. I believe you when you say that you researched Wikipedia policy thoroughly, but I just want to make sure. I've placed a welcoming template below this post that includes links to the most important policy pages, but I want to point out three things that I think are particularly relevant here:

  1. Notability - You need to make sure that PatentCafe is important enough to be written about. I Googled the company's name, but the hits I saw were largely pages on the company's own website. If you can find articles that have been written about the company by reputable sites, this will help you greatly in establishing notability. This brings us to...
  2. Verifiability - This policy states that any facts likely to be contentious need to have a third-party citation. While it's unlikely that information on a company would be considered contentious (unless you're Enron), it helps to make sure you have some sources for the article, even if it's just a list of links at the end at first. I believe you had some sources listed in the old page, so this should be all right. You do, however, need to be careful about...
  3. Neutral Point of View - Wikipedia editors are notoriously good at telling if someone is trying to sell them something. If your writing looks like it's written by someone who is trying to skew the facts, they will call NPOV on it. If they're skewing the facts on a company to make it look good, it comes across as spam.

Those three points aside, the last bit of advice I have is that you make sure the content of the article is evenly distributed. If you have one line on when and where the company was founded but two paragraphs on what it sells, it smacks of marketing and is likely to be deleted. Topics covered can vary from company to company, but they generally include a section on history and another on activities. If a company has a special policy that deserves to be noted, it's generally mentioned and then expanded on only if needed (i.e. a carbon neutral policy would only get a passing mention).

Anyways, these are only the things I could think of off the top of my head. While I can't guarantee that a re-created page wouldn't get deleted again, I can suggest that you create several drafts in your sandbox if you haven't already. If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. This has been done under the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article seems to be blatant advertising which only promotes a company, product, group, service or person and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become an encyclopedia article. This page was carefully re-crafted to comply with Wikipedia's requirements, and was modeled after http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oqo and AT&T.

It represents factual information of importance to the nearly 70,000 links back to it from websites worldwide. PatentCafe is a globally recognized brand that has been serving the intellectual property community longer than most patent related websites have been in existence.

As you will see from the previous thread, the reviewer provided links and acknowledged that this content was well structured and important.

I have made considerable changes to the page, but will again restructure the article following your specific recommendations, but a respectfully ask that you review the content fully to realize that this is not advertising.
