Andy Williamson[1] is a thought leader and visionary who is passionate about eDemocracy and the potential for new technologies to enhance civil society and democratic life.
Andy is Director of the Hansard Society[2] where he heads up the UKs longest established eDemocracy think-tank. He has a track record of influencing government policy relating to ICTs and for directly informing practice around parliament, central and local government in a number of countries.
A New Zealander, Andy is currently based in the UK but retains a global focus. His work includes citizen participation in government, digital content policy, broadband policy, regulation and service, community technology strategies, ICT security and confidence, ICT for minorities, indigenous and disadvantaged communities and ICT for development. Prior to moving to the UK, Andy was Managing Director of Wairua Consulting[[3], Deputy Chair of the New Zealand Government's[4] Digital Strategy Advisory Group[5] and Chair of the WaitakereOnline Editorial Board[6]. Andy also cofounded the award winning Aotearoa Ethnic Network[7]and was co-editor of the AENJournal[8]
Andy is a judge for the Webby Awards[9] and the Qantas New Zealand Media Awards[10], on the advisory board of the Community Informatics Research Network[11] and a research associate at the Centre for Community Networking Research[12] at Monash University[13] and at the New Zealand Tourism Research Institute[14] at AUT University[15]]
