Name: Andy Connolly
Age: 27

Occupation: Indirect Tax Accountant for CEMEX

I was schooled entirely within Wallsend, and attended, in order:

  • Redesdale First School
  • High Farm Middle School
  • Burnside Community High School

I was fortunate enough to gain a good set of results, and went on to gain four A-Levels from Tynemouth College, and a BA Degree in Accounting and Finance from Newcastle University. Currently I am debating as to whether it is the right time for me to gain professional qualifications and become a Chartered Accountant through CIMA, or become a Chartered Tax Advisor.

Non-standard qualifications included NCFE Accounting with Computers, RSA CLAIT I & II, and rugby coaching qualifications.

In my time in employment I have worked for Currys, B&Q, and Halfords in retail sales positions. After graduating I sold insurance for the AA, before moving to the Inland Revenue (working during its transition into Revenue & Customs), and then to P&G, where I worked as a VAT Accountant, handling VAT, Intrastat, and EC Sales List declarations. Recently, I have moved to CEMEX to continue my specialism in Indirect Taxes. Hopefully, this broad working knowledge will allow me to add to a vast number of different articles here!

I am interested in many things, particularly cars. I currently drive a 2004 SAAB 9³ Convertible. Previously I have owned a Vauxhall Omega, complete with some Irmscher additions, a Nissan Almera and a Rover 400. All have been modified.
