Local Food Hero is a food orientated television programme hosted and judged by celebrity chefs Gary Rhodes, Ollie Rowe and Rosemary Shrager. The programme is currently shown on the UKTV Food channel in the UK. The show's premise is to find, promote and award independent food businesses in the United Kingdom. Businesses are first nominated by the public on the UKTV Food web site, and can later vote for who they think should win in each round.
Each episode concentrates on a region of the British Isles, such as various parts of England, Wales, Scotland and Ireland. A celebrity visits eight businesses in their own locality who either produce, deliver and/or serve locally grown foodstuffs. The celebrity talks to the business owner about their business and tastes their produce, after, the celebrity chooses their favourite three of the eight, who then go on to meet the celebrity chefs with examples of their produce.
The three contestants are judged by the chefs, who then award them first, second and third place - however, the general public also have their say via the web site and also award who they think should be placed where. In the event of a tie after the public's vote has been accounted for, chef Gary Rhodes makes the final decision as to who wins.
