The issue is whether it's a notable hoax. Wikipedia has a category for hoaxes and a List of hoaxes. For now, I've put it in both. I personally believe it's a notable enough hoax to be included given some of the other inclusions and that quite a few people I know heard about it at the time (subjective I know but so is the whole concept of notability).
