James Anderson Merchant (b. August 30, 1950 in Mobile, Alabama) is a former catcher in Major League Baseball. He batted left-handed and threw right-handed. Merchant was drafted by the Boston Red Sox in 1972 and played in a total of three major league games for the team in 1975 and 1976, collecting two hits and scoring one runs.
