Andrew John "Andy" Burgess (born 10 August 1981 in Bedford, England) is an English footballer, currently playing for Rushden & Diamonds. He is in his second spell with the club, having recently returned from Oxford United.
He, along with John Dempster holds the ignominy of having played for both relegated clubs from League 2 in 2006 - Oxford and Rushden. A creative attacking midfielder with a wicked left foot and 'unique' hair, Burgess has scored goals as well this season including the second on the opening day of the season at home to Halifax.
Recently, Burgess was selected for the Non-League England squad to play in the 4 Nations Tournament against Ireland, Wales and Scotland. On 25th May 2007 Burgess scored against Scotland in the 3-0 win for England.
On Friday 3rd August, 2007 it was announced that Andy had once again signed for his previous club, Rushden & Diamonds FC on a free transfer from Oxford with a sell-on clause attached. It remains to be seen how he will be remembered by Oxford United fans many of whom questioned his commitment at some stages of the 2006/7 Season. He writes for the daily mirror for their pullout called the mania. His column is called life in the lower leagues.
