[edit] Band history
United by producer Daniel Hart, best known as being the creator and producer of The Irish Tenors, Andiamo merges both modern and classical sounds by using their operatic voices to sing fresh arrangements of traditional Italian songs (many of which are Canzone Napoletana). Andiamo's music producer, the Emmy Award-winning television and film composer Michael Whalen, says, "Musically, Andiamo is about straddling three worlds: classic Italian song, opera and popular song. We had always envisioned an orchestral sound that would be lush and full, filled with color and life...we wanted to transport people to the perfect Italy!"
A concert filmed at the La Bonbonniere Theatre in Maastricht, The Netherlands, aired as a television special on the American public channel PBS in March 2007. The group was accompanied by the 55-piece Il Novecento Orchestra, conducted by Arne Roth.
Andiamo's debut CD, Love, From Italy, was released in the United States on April 3, 2007. It is composed of thirteen famous, traditional, and popular Italian songs, including O Sole Mio, Quando, Quando, Quando, and Volare. An identically named DVD of the PBS broadcast was released simultaneously; it conatins bonus material including an interview with Andiamo and two bonus tracks cut from the PBS performance.
