Andheri Station is the fifth station on the Mumbai suburban railway's Western line. A major industrial area lies to the east and plush residential areas like Juhu Vile Parle Development scheme (JVPD) and Versova lie to its west. Roadside hawkers, snack sellers cater to the grocery buyer or a hungry commuter in the evenings.

The eastern side of the station is a major bus depot connecting Andheri to eastern suburbs like Ghatkopar, Vikhroli, Kurla and industrial areas like MIDC (Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation) facilities at Saki Naka and Marol.

The eastern side of the station is also the gateway to SEEPZ (Santacruz Electronics Exports Processing Zone - http://www.seepz.com). SEEPZ was established to promote exports from India of the Gem and Jewellery, Electronics and software industries. But now the focus being IT and ITES industries, it now hosts development centers for software development firms - TCS, PCS, Datamatics to name a few.

Currently two new platforms are constructed at this station for long distance trains but surprisingly few long distance trains stop at Andheri which is a central location. Notable is Flying Raanee to Surat.

The western side of the station is comprised of shopping centre's. The S.V. road which connects to the south of Mumbai lies west to the station. It is one of the main railway stations of the Western Railway. It is one of the few railway stations where fast local trains also halt.
