[edit] Geography
Andebu was established as a municipality January 1, 1838 (see formannskapsdistrikt).
Andebu has large areas of woodland. The main villages are Andebu, Høyjord and Kodal. The church buildings in all three villages are from the Middle Ages; the one in Høyjord is a stave church.
[edit] Name
The Norse form of the name was Andabú. The meaning of the first element is unknown, the last element is bú n 'district'.
Until 1889 the name was written "Andebo".
[edit] Coat-of-arms
The coat-of-arms is from modern times (1986). The three triangles represent the three parishes of the municipality (Andebu, Høyjord and Kodal) - and they also resembles the letter A (for Andebu). The colour green represent agriculture and forestry.
