I changed the word "south" to "east" in the first paragraph since the term "east of the river" is commonly used to refer to that side of the city. By the way, I just looked at the city's data from the 2000 Census regarding the "99 percent" statistic. The heart of downtown historic Anacostia is Good Hope Road and Martin Luther King, Jr. Avenue (census tract 75.03). Of 2,515 residents in this tract, 2,445 were African American in 2000 which is about 97%. There were 28 whites and single digit numbers of other races. --jd4508 17 Feb, 2005

Hi- Oh man.. I'm sorry somebody said that about the blog. It has absolutely nothing to do with any company, and its sole purpose is to show Anacostia in a non-biased, but good light. I would appreciate it if you would allow the link to go back so that people interested in the neighborhood can be directed there. It is already an underserved neighborhood. The above person was disgruntled because I would not write in support of a certain issue--but since it is a non-biased site I didn't want to make it political. It would be nice if it could be linked. If you read through the site (www.anacostianow.blogspot.com) you will see that it is mostly about public meetings, gallery shows, and local news and projects about the neighborhood. It is unfortunate that a contingency of people are trying to do away with it--but the vast majority of people that read it really appreciate its content and use it as a way of learning about the neighborhood.
