Fat Camp: An MTV Docs Movie Presentation is a documentary television movie about five teens at a fat camp called Camp Pocono Trails (CPT), in the Poconos, Pennsylvania. After premiering in February 2006 amid little fanfare, Fat Camp has gradually become a cult favorite.
Dianne is 14 years old and is home schooled due to her weight and health issues. While she attends CPT, her mother works as one of the infirmary nurses. Dianne puts in very little physical effort during her eight-week stay. She spends lots of time with her mother and spends as little time as possible with her bunkmates.
Between falling on the ground, threatening to not shower for several days, walking naked through the bunk -- much to the shock and dismay of her bunkmates -- and warbling a spirited rendition of "Sweet Home Alabama", she makes herself the centerpiece of the documentary. Can she lose enough weight and make social progress so that she can attend public high school?
Petey and Marisa were boyfriend-girlfriend during the previous year's Fat Camp. But after hanging out once during the school year, Marisa has soured on Petey. Now Petey will do anything to get Marisa back, while doing lots of talking behind her back. Marisa moves on to date Matt, who just happens to be Petey's biggest rival. Petey also says that Matt always gets his seconds. And that he told Amanda that he was getting tired of Marisa so then Petey can move in and get Marisa back again. Can Petey change Marisa's feelings for him?
Braelyn is a junior counselor dating Sam, but the show causes her to seem most interested in sneaking off the campground and smoking, as well as eating. Will she be able to last through the summer with the wild group of girls she has?
MTV filmed a sequel in the Summer of 2007 focusing on new kids, and touching on what has happened to Dianne. The sequel aired on December 1st, 2007. It focused on an entirely different group of campers but still took place at the same summer camp. The former characters made rather short appearances. Marisa looked much thinner. Dianne was more cooperative, and she was shown engaged in a game of volleyball. Petey only stayed at the camp for a very short while, prior to being expelled.
[edit] Quotes
Dianne [speaking to her mother]: Mom, I thought camp was going to be funner than this.
Dianne: I'm ready to go hang out with my friends and get away from my bitchy-ass roommates.
Dianne's Cabinmate [upon sight of a naked Dianne traipsing through the bunk]: I'm blind!
Another of Dianne's Cabinmates: Dianne, I'm really sorry your towel fell off and you felt really bad about it.
Dianne: I need some ointment for my legs.
Dianne: I fell on my knees three times and twisted my ankles four times.
Dianne: If you just would have told me I stank, I would have tooken [sic] a shower. But I thought you guys were being a bitch to me. Just tell me I stink, I'll take a fucking shower.
Girl in Dianne's cabin: When we say you need to take a shower, I thought that means you need to take a shower.
Dianne: I don't feel like dyin' today.
Diane: Sweet! Home! Alabama! Oh yes!
Random Kid: Alabama! 'Cause that's where it's at!
Diane: Oh yea!!!!!!!
Random Kid: Are you from Alabama?
Diane [gruffly]: No.
Dianne: I think I'm getting down to the lowest weight my body wants to be at. Is that weird? I've been working harder than I did when I came here, and I was losing more weight when I didn't work as hard. Maybe if I don't do anything this week, I'll lose, like, 10 lbs.
Dianne: Camp has helped me get along with kids a lil' better. I still don't understand 'em too well. Just how, how they could be so stupid.
