amys at mit is a graduate student at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology where she is a Ph.D. candidate. She has a Master of Science from MIT ("Field Fabrication of Solar Powered Steam Turbines") and a dual Bachelors of Science from Purdue University in electrical engineering and computer engineering. Before grad school, she was a systems engineer and ASIC design engineer at Lockheed Martin, a software developer at Hewlett-Packard and test engineer at AT&T Bell Labs. Her very first job was as a typist in a clerical pool and she swears she is not at all as lame and snobby as her pedigree might imply.
amys at mit drives a 1999 Ford Ranger pick-up truck with a 3" lift kit and 33" mudders which are completely useless on the packed snow and ice unfortunately in abundance in New England. She is nearly always accompanied by a 2002 Belgian Malinois mix dog. The trio escape often on backpacking trips, particularly in the American Southwest and since moving to Cambridge, the New Hampshire White Mountains. Their favorite places are the Grand Canyon and Glen Canyon.
She also builds robots (she was a BattleBots and Robot Wars competitor and Bots IQ judge) and travels extensively building and working with fab labs.
