[edit] Name
Why is it called a "Congo eel" if it resides in the southeastern United States? -Alex, 12.220.157.93 22:57, 6 March 2006 (UTC).
- Because people come up with all kinds of local nicknames. Amphiumas are also called "Conger eels" in some places, which is an actual species of marine eel. MFuture 22:53, 20 April 2006 (UTC)

- Which "Congo" are we refering to, btw? The river, the general area, the people, one of the countries? --Palnatoke 08:24, 4 September 2006 (UTC)

- I doubt it refers to the Congo the river, people or country -- I suspect it's slang for the Congaree River. I found this that claims that the two-toed amphiuma can be found in the vicinity of Congaree National Park. --71.76.39.125 (talk) 03:59, 17 January 2008 (UTC)
