The American Decency Association (ADA) is a non-profit Christian right organization based in Fremont, Michigan, USA.
It was founded in 1999 by Bill Johnson, who was formerly a director of the American Family Association, a Christian minister, and a teacher.
The ADA states its mission is "to educate its members and the general public on matters of decency; to initiate, promote, encourage and coordinate activity designed to safeguard and advance public morality consistent with biblical Christianity."
Specifically, the major goals of the ADA are to eradicate: the showing of nudity and sex on television, sexually suggestive magazine articles and covers that are shown in supermarkets, Howard Stern and other similar radio and television personalities, the teaching of sex education in schools, and policies that promote homosexuality.[citation needed]
The ADA organizes media campaigns and national boycotts of corporations that, through their products, services or advertising, promote values contrary to the ADA's beliefs. ADA sells educational resources (books, videos and tapes) for a suggested donation.[citation needed]
