American Benefit Plan Administrators, Inc. (ABPA, Inc.), founded in 1951, is one of the oldest third party administration (TPA) firm in the US, mainly serving clients in the Taft-Hartley industry, pension plans and voluntary employee benefit associations (VEBA).
American Benefit Plan Administrators (ABPA) administers pension plans, trust fund administration services for multi-employer employee benefit trusts established under Taft-Hartley Act, contribution accounting services, such as employer billing, electronic reporting for employees, and vacation trusts.
ABPA offers health and welfare plan claims administration services, including COBRA administration, customized PPOs, health and welfare eligibility, premium payments and claims processing.
ABPA operates its services through a network of service centers located through out the US. The company is based in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Prior to 2001, ABPA was publicly traded as part of Planvista Corporation (Nasdaq: PVST). On June 18, 2001 ABPA went private, when it was acquired by Sun Capital Partners (Sun Capital Partners, Inc. Website), a private equity firm, through its affiliate HealthPlan Holdings, Inc. (HealthPlan Holdings, Inc.)
After its acquisition by Sun Capital, ABPA's growth strategy has been based mostly on growth through acquisitions. As part of this strategy ABPA had acquired Administrative Services, Inc., Atlanta, GA, OBA Midwest, Burr Ridge, IL (OBA Midwest, Inc.) and Administrative Services, Inc., Portland, WA.
