To

A few years later, he ventured an armed incursion into neighbouring Jaipur, a senior Kachwaha state, and was defeated;

The Reason being, during the time of Bakhtawar Singh (died 1815) Jaipur had yet to sign a treaty with the British, as the initial treaty between Jaipur and the British of 1803 was abolished shortly afterwards and it was not until 1818 that a treaty was made between Jaipur state and the British.
