Alvise I Mocenigo

Alvise I Mocenigo (1507-1577) was doge of Venice from 1570 to 1577. During his reign the Turks conquered the fortresses of Nicosia and Famagusta in Cyprus. Despite the victory in the Battle of Lepanto, he was forced to make peace with the Turks in 1573 and to recognize the loss of Cyprus.
