ALV X-1
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
ALV X-1 will be a sounding rocket flight of a vehicle being developed by Alliant Techsystems called the ATK Launch Vehicle (ALV). The rocket will carry the SOAREX-VI and Hy-BoLT experiments as payloads.[1] One report indicates the flight is scheduled for 2008-07-15.[2] Launch will be from the Wallops Flight Facility.

[edit] Hy-BoLT
The hypersonic boundary layer transition experiment (Hy-BoLT) payload is sponsored by the Hypersonics Project within the Fundamental Aeronautics Program of NASA.[1] Hy-BoLT is "a wedge-shaped payload that should provide valuable data on the fundamental physics of high-Mach flight."[3] It will be launched to an altitude of 250 miles (400 km). Temperatures and pressures on different parts of the vehicle's surface will be recorded and analyzed.
[edit] SOAREX-VI
The suborbital aerodynamic re-entry experiment (SOAREX-VI), developed by NASA's Ames Research Center is being carried by the ALV X-1 flight as a secondary payload.[1]
